Controlling Surface Friction of Metal Rollers

Surface friction of metal rollers can be controlled by applying a layer of coating onto the surface.

Below are examples of how we control surface friction of aluminum rollers at our factory.

Surface friction can either be increased or decreased by applying different types of coating.

To increase friction, urethane coating is often used.  On the contrary, a fluoro-based coating is often used to decrease friction.

1.Increasing Friction

Application of urethane coating is one method to increase friction.
Different degrees of friction can be achieved by choosing an appropriate type of urethane material or foam type urethane. (refer to below graph)

2.Decrease Friction

Application of a fluoro-based coating is one method to decrease friction.
Fluoro-based coating has an added effect of anti-contamination since dust and other foreign particles do not usually adhere to its surface.

By adding microparticles to the fluoro-based coating material, friction can be further reduced and anti-contamination characteristic can be improved.
An appropriate coating can be selected according to required usage. (refer to below graph)

3.Rollers with various coatings

We are developing rollers with appropriate coating materials depending on requirements or purposes.
Here are introductions of our products followings.

●Foamed Urethane coating(Non-conductive,conductive)

High friction coefficient and is useful for applications
requiring high friction forces. Also having elastic,
ensuring durable stability in friction.

●Urethane coating(Non-conductive,conductive)

High friction coefficient and is useful for applications requiring high friction forces.

●Fluorine coating (non-conductive,conductive)

Useful for applications requiring Non-stick and Heat resistance.

●Beads Coating (nonconductive)

Spacer effect from beads particles is effective in antifouling coating surface due to paper dust .

●Ceramic coating (non-conductive,conductive)

Useful for applications requiring Grip force
and Abrasion resistance.
